UPDATE

Thailand is making waves in the remote work community with its new Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) for digital nomads and remote workers.

Long Stay, Low Cost

The DTV allows stays of up to 180 days per year and is valid for five years. Extensions are available for an additional fee of 10,000 baht (~$280).

Financial Requirements

Applicants need to be at least 20 years old and show financial reserves of 500,000 baht (~$14,500), significantly lower than similar visas in Malaysia and Japan.

Family-Friendly

Visa holders can bring legal dependents, including spouses and children under 20. The application process is set to begin on June 1st, 2024.

UPDATE

Argentina’s National Securities Commission (CNV) is taking cues from El Salvador’s pioneering Bitcoin adoption. Meeting with El Salvador’s National Commission of Digital Assets, Argentina aims to learn from their experience to enhance its own crypto strategy.

Strengthening Crypto Ties

CNV officials discussed collaboration possibilities, including potential agreements to bolster Argentina's crypto framework.

Progressive Moves

Under President Javier Milei, Argentina is advancing its cryptocurrency regulations, highlighted by new Bitcoin mining facilities and registration requirements for crypto firms.

UPDATE

Canada's immigration minister, Marc Miller, has introduced Bill C-71, aimed at restoring citizenship to "Lost Canadians." This group includes individuals who lost or never acquired Canadian citizenship due to outdated legislation.

New Legislation Details

The proposed bill allows children born abroad to Canadian parents to automatically obtain citizenship, extending the current first-generation limit. Parents must prove at least three years of physical presence in Canada before their child’s birth or adoption to pass on citizenship.

Addressing Past Injustices

This move follows a ruling by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, which deemed the second-generation cut-off rule unconstitutional. The new bill aims to rectify these past legislative oversights and make the citizenship process more inclusive and fair.

BOOK OF THE WEEK

Made to Stick by Chip Heath explores the elements that make ideas memorable and impactful. The authors identify six key principles—simplicity, unexpectedness, concreteness, credibility, emotions, and stories (SUCCESs)—that contribute to the "stickiness" of an idea. Through engaging anecdotes and research, they illustrate how these principles can be effectively applied to communicate messages that resonate and endure.

The book emphasizes the importance of crafting messages that are clear and compelling, stripping away unnecessary complexity to reveal the core idea. It also highlights the power of surprise and emotional connection in capturing attention and making information more relatable. By weaving stories and concrete details into their explanations, the Heath brothers provide practical strategies for anyone looking to create messages that stick.
