UPDATE

Looking to settle in Gibraltar? This British Overseas Territory offers multiple pathways to permanent residency. The most popular options include the Category 2 Individual Status, designed for high net-worth individuals (HNWIs) with a £2 million net worth, and the High Executive Possessing Specialist Skills (HEPSS) program for top-tier professionals. Each path comes with distinct tax benefits and requirements. Additionally, Gibraltar's favorable tax regime, absence of capital gains, inheritance tax, and low corporate tax make it an attractive destination for investors and retirees alike.

Key Pathways to Residency:

  • Category 2 Status: Ideal for HNWIs, with a tax cap on worldwide income.

  • HEPSS: Targets senior executives with specialized skills.

Tax Advantages:

  • No capital gains or inheritance tax.

  • Corporate tax rate at 12.5%.

UPDATE

Ukraine is set to grant citizenship to foreign volunteers serving in its Defense Forces, along with their families, as announced by President Zelenskyy. The move is intended to recognize the contributions of these "Ukrainian legionnaires" in defending Ukraine’s independence. Zelenskyy emphasized the fairness of extending citizenship to the families of these fighters. This decision is part of broader legal measures aimed at supporting soldiers and addressing issues related to the ongoing conflict.

UPDATE

In a bid to counter South Korea’s declining birth rate, National Assembly speaker Kim Jin-pyo is advocating for relaxed dual citizenship rules. Currently, South Korea has strict regulations that generally prohibit dual citizenship. Kim suggests allowing overseas Koreans to retain multiple nationalities, particularly those over 40 who are exempt from military service. The proposal reflects growing recognition within the government that easing citizenship laws could help address demographic challenges.

Key Points:

  • Dual citizenship reform aims to boost birth rates.

  • Focus on overseas Koreans, especially those exempt from military service.

  • Government consensus is building around the idea.

MARKET REVIEW OF THE WEEK

Taichung, Taiwan 🇹🇼

Taichung is gaining attention as a promising real estate market in Taiwan, driven by moderate property prices and potential rental yields. The average gross rental yield for residential properties in Taichung is approximately 5.66% in the city center and 7.90% outside the center. While these yields are modest compared to other cities, the city’s growing tech sector and infrastructure developments make it appealing for long-term investors.

Niche Investments:

  • Residential Rentals: Demand for rental properties is stable, especially from professionals in the tech and education sectors.

  • Commercial Real Estate: The ongoing development of tech parks presents opportunities for investing in office spaces.

  • Green Buildings: Sustainability-focused projects are gaining traction, offering niche investment potential.

Current Opportunities:

  • Affordable Buy-In: Property prices are still relatively lower than in Taipei, making Taichung attractive for investors seeking entry points in Taiwan’s real estate market.
