EU May Permanently Removes Vanuatu’s Visa Free Access 🇻🇺

US Presidents Determine Crypto’s Fate? 🇺🇸
Let’s go!
UPDATE
The European Commission has recommended making Vanuatu’s visa-free access to the Schengen area permanent after the temporary suspension expires on August 3. This follows security concerns related to Vanuatu's investor citizenship schemes.
Background
Initial Suspension: The suspension began in March 2022, impacting passports issued after May 25, 2015.
Extended Deadlines: Vanuatu was given multiple extensions to reform its Citizenship by Investment (CBI) programs but failed to meet EU standards.
Permanent Ban Proposal
Security Risks: The EU Commission cited insufficient progress in mitigating security risks from Vanuatu’s CBI programs despite legislative changes.
UPDATE
St. Lucia's Prime Minister Philip J Pierre confirmed signing the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with four other Caribbean nations to harmonize their Citizenship by Investment (CBI) programs.
New Initiatives
Annual Quotas: An annual cap on CBI approvals.
Net Worth Requirement: Applicants must meet a minimum net worth.
On-Island Escrow: Funds must be held in escrow accounts on the respective island.
Compliance and Future Steps
St. Lucia has already met US-imposed principles, including banning certain nationalities and enhancing vetting processes. The new measures will enhance the region's CBI program standards.
UPDATE
Ukraine might soon prevent men aged 18-60 with dual US-Ukrainian citizenship from leaving the country. The US Embassy in Ukraine announced that the "residence abroad" exception, which allowed travel for some dual citizens, will be revoked starting June 1. This change supports Ukraine’s recent mobilization law, aimed at strengthening its armed forces amid ongoing conflict.
Travel Implications
Immediate Advisory: The US Embassy advises dual citizens to avoid traveling to Ukraine and recommends those currently in Ukraine to shelter in place.
Policy Enforcement: The policy is part of Ukraine's efforts to ensure sufficient manpower for its military.

UPDATE
In a significant move, the US President now has the authority to regulate digital assets, potentially restricting access. This power aims to prevent transactions linked to foreign entities and terrorist activities. Critics argue this could lead to overreach, forcing users into regulated blockchain environments and limiting financial privacy.
Legislation Details
Broad Definitions: Digital assets include cryptocurrencies, tokens, smart contracts.
Foreign Control: Targets entities violating US sanctions.
MARKET REVIEW OF THE WEEK
Paraguay 🇵🇾

Paraguay's real estate market, particularly in Asunción, is attracting foreign investment, primarily from neighboring Argentina and Brazil. The city's stable political climate and pro-business environment are key drivers. Here’s a quick look at the current landscape:
Rental Yields
Rental yields in Asunción are modest, averaging between 4% to 6% gross. Despite the potential for higher returns, the market is saturated with properties bought for capital preservation rather than rental income, resulting in lower yields.
Popular Niches
High-demand niches include residential properties in upscale neighborhoods like Recoleta, Villa Morra, and Carmelitas, known for their modern amenities and safety. These areas attract affluent locals and expatriates seeking quality living standards.
Hottest Investment Regions
Asunción leads the way with its blend of urban development and political stability. Key investment hotspots within the city include the aforementioned neighborhoods and emerging areas like Perseverancia, which offer long-term growth potential.
BOOK OF THE WEEK
The Fortunes of Liberalism by F.A. Hayek is a compelling exploration of the development and impact of liberal thought. Hayek delves into the historical roots of liberalism, tracing its evolution through the contributions of key thinkers and its influence on economic and political theory. He highlights the successes and challenges faced by liberalism, providing a nuanced understanding of its principles and their application in various contexts.
In the book, Hayek emphasizes the importance of individual freedom and the rule of law as foundational elements of a prosperous society. He critiques the expansion of government intervention and the erosion of market mechanisms, arguing that these trends threaten the core values of liberalism. Through a blend of historical analysis and philosophical discourse, Hayek underscores the enduring relevance of liberal ideas in addressing contemporary economic and social issues.
