PLUS: This province in Argentina has crazy affordable land close to Buenos Aires
Good morning, global opportunists!
Welcome to the 18th article from The Sovereign Atlas! Every Friday we publish quick updates that benefit your global sovereignty lifestyle.
Here’s what we’ve got this week:
Portugal: D2 vs D7 Residency 🇵🇹
Argentina’s Investor Visa 🇦🇷
Lowering Your Taxes as A US Citizen 🇺🇸
The BTC Halving is Here! 👀
Let’s go!
UPDATE
Whether you're planning to embark on a business venture or soak up the serene Portuguese lifestyle, knowing the right visa between the D2 and D7 can set you on the correct course.
Entrepreneur? D2 Visa Calls
The D2 Visa is perfect for non-EU entrepreneurs wanting to start or expand business in Portugal. With this visa, you can also travel within the Schengen Area and bring your family over (parents included).
Have $800+ in Passive Income? D7 Visa is Your Mate
Aimed at non-EU nationals with a stable passive income, the D7 Visa is ideal if you're looking to retire or live off investments without active business management. It allows free movement within the Schengen zone and offers a path to citizenship after five years.
Both visas allows bringing your entire family to Portugal, aligning with different lifestyles and business opportunities. Regardless of which you pick, both can lead to citizenship after 5 years. And both programs offer tax exemptions.
UPDATE
If you’re an entrepreneur and have ideas waiting to be built, Argentina could be the place to be for you. Here's what to know:
Capital Commitment
Investors need to inject a minimum of ARS 1,500,000 ($1,725) into a local business, which they must actively manage. This could be buying an existing business or creating something new. It can be in any industry.
Visa Perks
This visa offers temporary residency of 1 year and can be renewed for another 2 years. After maintaining 2 years of residency (minimum of 183 days per year), investors can then apply for citizenship.
Beyond Business
The visa isn't just about business—it integrates you fully into Argentine society, with tax incentives in a massive startup scene and a path to citizenship for you and your family in just 2 years.
UPDATE
Seeking to reduce the tax burden of being a US citizen? Here's a quick guide to navigate the options:
Offshore Living
By living abroad and not spending over a specified amount of days in the U.S., you can benefit from the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion and other tax advantages, potentially reducing your taxable income significantly.
Puerto Rico Relocation
Moving to Puerto Rico offers attractive tax incentives under Act 60, potentially cutting taxes down to 4%.
Citizenship Renunciation
For the ultimate tax break, renouncing U.S. citizenship removes future tax obligations on global income, albeit with significant upfront and long-term considerations. This should only be an option once you have 2-3 other passports and are financially independent.

UPDATE
Bitcoin is ready for it’s 4 year halving estimated to be either today (April 19th, 2024) or tomorrow. Here's the lowdown on what this means and how it might affect the market:
Countdown to Less Coin
Every four years, the reward for mining Bitcoin transactions halves. This dramatic drop—in 2024, from 6.25 to 3.125 BTC per block—is not just a technical tweak. It's a built-in feature to reduce the new supply of Bitcoin, thereby boosting its scarcity.
Past Patterns, Future Speculations
Historically, halving events have triggered bullish runs in the Bitcoin market. After the last three halvings, significant price increases followed, though it's crucial to note each post-halving market behaved differently. For example, after the 2020 halving, Bitcoin's price soared from around $8,500 to an all-time high over $60,000 in less than a year.
Looking Ahead
As we approach the 2024 halving, the crypto community is abuzz with predictions. Some speculate that the reduced block reward will lead to a "supply shock," potentially driving up Bitcoin's price if demand remains high. However, it's also possible that the impact of each successive halving could diminish as Bitcoin matures and the market adapts to these predictable changes.
MARKET REVIEW OF THE WEEK
Entre Ríos Province, Argentina

No in depth market analysis this week. I wanted to draw attention to the land ownership opportunities in Argentina, specifically in Entre Ríos Province. Argentina continues to be top residency and citizenship destination in all of LatAm since the election of Javier Milei, so I figured I’d share some insights into the rural/semi-rural agricultural opportunities that exist here.
Entre Ríos Province is located 2.5-3.5 hours north of Buenos Aires. It is comprised of nearly 1.4 million people and is known for its hot springs & yerba mate production. It has a strong agricultural culture overall but with decent modern conveniences as well.
The land here is fairly cheap, and it is good quality land. You can find various listings across many sites of large acreage properties selling for less than $100k USD (Like this one: 61 acres for $87,500) This is the norm in the area. Even if you’re not interested in ag, the qualify land in a growing area close to Buenos Aires & Uruguay presents opportunities for real estate development. Just a good region to look into, if you’re looking for quality land in Argentina.
BOOK OF THE WEEK
The Resilient Farm & Homestead

The Resilient Farm and Homestead by Ben Falk is a comprehensive guide that offers practical insights into developing sustainable and resilient agricultural systems. The book draws from Falk's experiences at his own Whole Systems Research Farm in Vermont, emphasizing permaculture and regenerative agriculture principles. It provides readers with detailed strategies for water management, soil regeneration, and energy efficiency. Falk also includes case studies and project designs that illustrate the application of these principles in a real-world setting.
Beyond just farming techniques, Falk encourages a holistic approach to homestead planning and management that integrates food production, energy, and housing. The book is an invaluable resource for anyone looking to create a farm or homestead that is not only productive but also sustainable in the face of changing climates and economic conditions. It includes a range of topics from staple crop production to the cultivation of medicinal herbs, showing how diversified operations can contribute to a resilient lifestyle. Through this work, Falk aims to inspire a new generation of farmers and homesteaders to think creatively about sustainability.
